Octopath Traveler 2 is set to reach Xbox Game Pass in June 2024, a reliable leaker has claimed. The purported release would be a big addition to the growing selection of JRPGs on Xbox Game Pass.
Octopath Traveler 2 debuted to critical acclaim in February 2023. While the first game in the series was a timed Switch exclusive, its sequel was treated to a simultaneous release on the PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo's hybrid console. An Xbox One and Series X/S version of Octopath Traveler 2 was announced at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2023, with Square Enix saying it's aiming to release it in early 2024.

Octopath Traveler 2 Xbox Port Will Reportedly be a Day-One Game Pass Release
And while the port has already missed that release window, it will supposedly be ready to debut by month's end. That's according to a new report by Spanish leaker eXtas1s, which also states that the Octopath Traveler 2 Xbox port will be a day-one Game Pass release. Its arrival on the subscription service may be accompanied by the return of the first Octopath Traveler, which was removed from Xbox Game Pass in February 2023, as per the same source.
This claim arrives just a few days ahead of the next Xbox Games Showcase, which is scheduled to kick off on June 9. While the upcoming event seems like an obvious opportunity for Microsoft to officially treat the Xbox version of Octopath Traveler 2 to a release date, eXtas1s says his sources were unable to confirm the exact timing of the port's debut. Although rumors of this sort always warrant some degree of skepticism, the Spanish insider behind this particular claim has a substantial track record of similar scoops. Specifically, eXtas1s has previously correctly leaked the Xbox Game Pass debuts of Soul Hackers 2 and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, among several other titles.
The newly emerged report marks the second occasion on which Octopath Traveler 2 was alleged to be coming to Xbox Game Pass. It was preceded by a September 2023 rumor stemming from an interview with then-Xbox VP Sarah Bond, which some fans interpreted as hinting at the game's XGP launch. In a rare move, Microsoft issued a clarification that dismissed that speculation, stating that Octopath Traveler 2 would not be coming to Xbox Game Pass after all.

Be that as it may, eXtas1s's report now indicates that Microsoft may have managed to reach a publishing agreement with Square Enix after all. Such a development sounds well within the realm of possibility, not least because the Japanese company has lately been reiterating that it wants to grow its Xbox presence. Microsoft, for its part, has also been trying to bring more JRPGs to Xbox users in recent times, as underlined by its strengthening relationships with the likes of Atlus, Sega, and Square Enix itself.
