Where to Find and Recruit Minthara - Baldur's Gate III Guide - IGN (2024)

One of the most interesting things about Baldur's Gate 3 is the absolute freedom of choice that it gives players - and the consequences that follow each and every choice.

Building your dream party can take a little effort, and one of the most popular (but hard to obtain) party members is Minthara. Before the Patch 5 update, getting her on your side either required an entirely Chaotic Evil run of the game or a convoluted mess involving Polymorph abilities.

Thankfully, it's now a lot easier to find and recruit Minthara without the need for utter carnage. The steps for this recruitment are still somewhat fiddly, though, so make sure you follow the steps given exactly. Here, you'll find IGN's complete Walkthrough for unlocking Minthara as an ally during a Good/Neutral run of BG3, including her location and which Rolls to look out for.

How to Recruit Minthara In Baldur's Gate 3

Minthara is a Drow Paladin who starts off as one of the leaders of the Goblin Army.

The first time that players will meet her is during the questline that involves rescuing Halsin from the Goblins. The majority of players do end up killing her on their first playthrough, but with some careful planning, it's possible to have her on your side - and even romance her if you choose.

To get to that point, though, you'll need to be in the Goblin Camp and working through the battles with the various Goblin leaders. When you get to Minthara, make sure you enable 'Non-Lethal' attacks. If you miss this step, you won't be able to recruit her.

Your aim here will be to knock Minthara unconscious, but it's important to meet a specific requirement before doing this.

Minthara must have the temporary Hostile status before you knock her out. You can achieve this by attacking her without Halsin being visible or by stealing something in front of her then attacking her, but make sure you do this after promising to help her clear out the Grove.

If you've done this correctly, knocking Minthara out will leave her as a lootable body but still alive. This will meet the requirements for the Halsin questline and tell the game that you've cleared out the Goblin Camp even though she's still alive.

If you're worried you haven't done it right, leave the room and take a Long Rest before clearing out the rest of the camp. Walk back in to double check. If she is standing up as normal, you'll need to rinse and repeat so that she ends up knocked unconscious after being Hostile.

Finish up the Goblin Camp ques tline and continue heading on your way to Moonrise Towers. It doesn't matter if you head there via the Underdark or the Mountain Pass.

Follow the Act Two quest along until you end up in Moonrise Towers under the guise of being a True Soul.

Here, you'll encounter Minthara being interrogated by her commanders - Ketheric and Z'rell - about the location of the Artifact.

It's worth saving here. There are a number of important Rolls coming up that you'll need to pass in order to recruit Minthara.

You'll need to speak to the commanders and pass multiple Wisdom Rolls in order to convince them that they should throw Minthara into jail and spare her life.

When Minthara is thrown into jail, follow after her. You'll be able to follow a trail of blood to the Interrogation Chamber where Minthara is being held.

When you find Minthara, she will be having her memories erased by the two Questioners. It's a gruesome and painful process.

You've got two choices here- either you can convince the guards to leave her alone and let you take over, or you can just choose to attack them. Make this choice based on your party's strengths and Charisma stats.

Either way is fine for the unlock process, though.

You'll need to either talk your way out of Moonrise Towers or fight your way out. The important thing to note is that you can't Fast Travel here- if you do, Minthara will be left behind. Make sure you walk out of the gates with Minthara.

With the right Charisma Rolls, Minthara will ask to meet you at camp.

Then, head back to camp and save your game.

From here, you'll be able to interact with Minthara and have her join your party just like any other companion character. You can give her her gear back, speak to her, romance her, or swap her out for other party members.

With that, you've officially recruited Minthara! At this point in the story, it's a good time to start preparing for Act Three and finishing up some side quests for extra experience and gear. There's still a lot left to finish in BG3, so your party will need all the help they can get.
