I have a thing for roses, friends. There’s just something that’s so perfect about their shape, their smell, their texture. I’m in love with ’em and want to recreate it as often as possible. A while back, I created these Apple Rose Tarts that were STUNNING and gorgeous and easy to make! And these Rose Sugar Cookies are simple and simply stunning, too!

Because of my love of roses, I had a friend guest post about How to Make Paper Rosettes, too! Her work is stunning and I HAD TO KNOW how she did it, haha. When I receive roses, I dry ’em out upside down for a month so I can reuse the petals. Some of it I use for herbal remedies, or bath salts. Sometimes I use them for herbal candles. I think rose petals are stunning, and roses are even more gorgeous.

I love the simplicity with these rose sugar cookies. Just a tasty sugar cookie bottom with a delectable homemade buttercream rose flower piped over top the cookie. Add to that a gorgeous yet simply green fondant leaf set atop the frosted flower? Incredible.

Easy Rose Sugar Cookies

This homemade buttercream recipe is truly the best buttercream I’ve ever made. It’s so easy to make for cookies, cakes, cupcakes and more. You can’t beat that it’s also really easy to use! This buttercream pipes so cleanly, so beautifully! Using a good quality electric mixer to create it makes all the difference.

Pink Rose Sugar Cookies

To make this perfect pink buttercream, I used a good quality red gel food coloring. The red color makes this lovely shade of pink using only two small drops of it for this recipe! Who knew? You could easily substitute in a different color red, or maybe even pink gel food coloring if you wish, perhaps a lighter or darker pink, especially if you decide you want variating colors for your roses!

For my dessert recipes, I prefer to use a ready-made fondant. Satin Ice is a good quality brand I pick up from Amazon when my grocery store doesn’t have it in stock. I find it makes creating desserts easier by eliminating the steps, especially when you’re bulk baking for a party, get together, or holiday function.

Ensure that your cookies are cool to the touch before decorating. It’s best to cool them on a wire rack so they are fully cooled before decorating. You don’t want drooling rose sugar cookies, do you? 🙂

The key element to these cookies is the beautiful pink buttercream. To make, begin by beating softened butter, confectioners’ sugar and milk on medium. Increase the speed to high.

Add red gel food coloring and continue beating until buttercream is completely tinted. The buttercream is ready once it is smooth and forms semi-stiff peaks.

Starting in the center, carefully frost each of your cookies in a circular motion.

Roll 12 small spheres out of your green fondant and another 12 that are slightly smaller. Flatten them out slightly and give them one pointed end – kind of like a teardrop shape.

Mold the leaves next to your decorated cookies to be sure you’re not creating the leaves too large to fit on the frosting. Adjust the size as necessary.
